Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM II Lens Review

I bought my sigma 70-200mm HSM II Lens used about a year ago for considerably less than what a new lens of the same model was selling for. So far it has been the most frequently used lens in my bag. I have used it for everything from fashion shoots to Street Bike Races at Nashville Super Speedway. The lens came with a very nice padded case and strap from Sigma. It fits nicely into my camera bag with my other lenses, but if I had to carry it separately it would have no problem protecting the lens.
The lens has a very well built feel to it. It is about 7.2 inches in height and 3.3 inches wide. There’s just enough weight at 42oz to let you know that you have bought a nice piece of equipment. For a big handed guy like myself, the zoom and focus rings fit perfectly in my grip. They are tough and solid unlike many other models that I have used.
Included with the lens is a Teflon coated tripod collar that can be put on and off with ease. The Teflon coating makes for frictionless rotation when mounted on a monopod or tripod.
The image quality is beautiful. It produces naturally sharp images without having to fool around with your camera settings after every shoot. The 2.8 maximum aperture setting makes it great for shooting sports and fast action shots. The lens is an EX series lens which means it works on cameras with 35mm full frame sensors, like the d3 and D700 from Nikon. But it also works well on cropped frame sensor cameras, like the Nikon D300. Personally I have found that using the EX series lenses from Sigma works well for shooting sports for it gives you a little bit more reach into the scene.

I won’t go much into tech specs, you can get those from most any site. My review is more for people looking to get a real opinion about the equipment they are thinking of buying.
